Pay Range:The pay range for a Histotechnologist is $22.00 to $42.22 and for a Histology Technician is $20.00 to $34.39.

Eligible candidates include full-time or part-time employees working for at least 20 hours each week. Job Responsibilities:

  • The manipulation of human body fluids and tissues to make them ready for microscopic analysis is referred to as sample processing
  • Carry out technical tasks involved in creating histopathological slides from surgical samples
  • Utilize a microtome to cut the embedded tissue into sections, and then proceed to mount the section accurately onto a slide that's ready for viewing under a microscope
  • Conduct diverse immunohistochemical examinations on tissue sections fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin
  • The preparation of mounted sections for staining is an important process in the field of microscopy, as it allows for the visualization of cellular and tissue structures
  • To correctly position and insert surgical tissue specimens, follow the standard guidelines provided by your institution or laboratory
  • The necessary reagents and stains must be prepared prior to conducting any special procedures in the laboratory
  • In order to ensure quality care for patients, it is essential to provide accurate test results in a timely manner
  • Operating and maintaining both manually and automatically-driven instruments require different skill sets and levels of proficiency
  • Carry out routine equipment maintenance when required and keep a record of such maintenance activities
  • Precisely document the equipment log data without any errors and in a punctual fashion
  • Implementing routine maintenance and quality control measures is essential to ensure that equipment and processes remain functioning effectively
  • It is essential to adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies to ensure accuracy and reliability in the results of the tests
  • Adhere to the guidelines given by the lab for handling, testing and reporting of specimens
  • Identifying factors that may negatively influence test performance and taking appropriate steps to address them is key to ensuring accurate and reliable results

Requirements:

  • A degree in Life Science at either Associate's or Bachelor's level is the desired educational qualification. Additionally, the candidate must fulfill the regulatory requirements according to local laws, namely CLIA and State
  • ASCP certifications and histology knowledge are preferential
  • A license from the State of New York is mandatory for operating a clinical laboratory
  • Though it is not obligatory, having prior knowledge in histology would be advantageous
  • A thorough understanding of common histology procedures and instruments is essential for anyone working in a laboratory setting
  • Having a background in immunohistochemistry can be beneficial
  • The ease of accommodating both massive and tiny samples
  • Competence in comprehensively interpreting all product labels and documentation
  • Impeccably methodical and meticulously detail-oriented
  • It is a plus if candidates have prior exposure to a lab work setting with a high volume of activities
  • Being well-versed in laboratory standard operating procedures and safety regulations is crucial
  • It is imperative to clear a standardized color perception exam
