Executive Summary:
As an Assistant Store Manager, you will help create a clean, organized, and customer-oriented store environment. Under the guidance and authority of the Store Manager, the Assistant Store Manager takes part in supervising store employees, handling merchandise, completing necessary paperwork, and preparing deposits. The role extends to stocking, cashiering, and ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction while safeguarding company assets and minimising losses.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver superior customer service; this involves greeting and assisting customers, and operating the cash register and scanner to process the customer’s purchase.
- You will be required to open and close the store at least two days per week.
- Assist the Store Manager in areas such as employee scheduling, providing adequate training, conducting safety meetings, and ensuring employee adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Follow company procedures in handling merchandise, which include receiving, unpacking, stocking, restocking, and rotating merchandise on shelves, and building merchandise displays.
- Participate in maintaining proper inventory levels through managing damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility control.
- Involve in the implementation and upkeep of planograms; maintain merchandise showcase in line with established practices and the Store Manager's guidance.
- Help guarantee the store's financial integrity through strict cashier responsibility, key control, compliance with company security procedures and cash control practices; authorize and sign for refunds and overrides, count register tills, and deposit money at the bank.
- Take over store management in the Store Manager’s absence when required.
Requirements:
Knowledge and Skills:
- Effective interpersonal skills with proficient written and oral communication abilities.
- Demonstrable problem-solving capabilities and the ability to handle a variety of situations.
- Good organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in interpreting documents such as diagrams, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
- Capacity to perform mathematical calculations.
- Competency in cash register functions and report generation.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies.
Experience and Education:
- Strong preference for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a retail setting and at least six months supervisory experience is desirable.
Work Environment:
- The role involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- You may occasionally need to lift up to 55 pounds; regular lifting of up to 40 pounds is typical.
- Fast-paced environment with moderate noise level.
- Limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions may be part of the job.
- Occasional driving or provision of personal transport may be required for bank deposits, management meetings, and visits to other stores.
