Overview
The Integrated Power System (IPS) Directorate supports the development of platforms for the All Electric Navy. This technology is focused on electric drive propulsion, electric power generation, and advanced power systems. This technology is part of the continuing trend in making ships more electric, more capable, and more affordable.
The Integrated Power System Electric Plant Systems and Analysis group responsibilities support submarine system, component performance and the overall capability of the platform to achieve its mission. This support is specialized in power electronics, digital signal processing, embedded controls, electric machines, linear and non-linear system theory, computer modeling and analysis, and power system protections to help integrate these technologies onto submarines.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a collaborative, inclusive and rewarding work environment
- Supervise a group comprised of engineers supporting the design, development, and analysis of submarine electrical systems
- Review and manage power system interface specifications and ship specifications
- Ensure the technical accuracy, quality, cost and schedule performance of products
- Frequent interface with NAVSEA (05, 08, NNL, and BPMI) customers
- Coordinate routinely with engineering management for development, review and approval support.
- Support equipment and system tests
- Provide resources and support to resolve problems discovered during testing and analysis
- Review test data to support requirement validation
- Recommend design changes for customer approval
- Foster professional development of assigned employees
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- Ability to obtain and hold a DOD Secret security clearance
- Strong organization and decision making skills
- Project management skills
- Ability to function independently as well as work in a multi discipline team environment
- Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Occasional travel may be required (~10%)
Preferred:
- B.S. and/or advanced degree in electrical engineering or related field
- Experience or related education in the engineering, analysis, and test of power electronic systems and/or electromechanical machines
- Experience with systems engineering functions
- Experience with performing mathematical system modeling
- Experience/ coursework in electromechanical energy conversion, electric drives, digital controls, power electronics, and electric machines are preferred
- Experience interacting with Navy customers
