The Mid-Atlantic Distribution Center, a proud member of the Kroger family of companies, is looking for a Transportation Manager to be a part of our team. The Mid-Atlantic DC is located in Salem, VA and is the county seat of Roanoke County. Salem is a contrast of quaint, charming historical culture and thriving modern industry. It is home to the Salem Civic Center where the second largest fair in Virginia is held each July. It is also home to one of the most popular festivals in the Roanoke Valley, Olde Salem Days which features one of the largest antique car shows on the east coast as well as an arts and crafts show. Salem also provides a Class A professional baseball team, Salem Sox which is a Boston Red Sox minor league affiliate. The DC has been in business since the 1960s and currently services over 100 Kroger grocery stores.

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing oversight and leadership for the efficient, cost-effective transport of product from distribution warehouse to retail stores in a multi-state region. Serves as the site s contact/liaison with outside carriers on transportation and delivery concerns. Role model and demonstate the company s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Essential Job Functions:

• Oversee the delivery of product from distribution centers to stores in the most cost-effective manner and achieve precise delivery time goals
• Coordinate in and outbound freight
• Manage transportation budgets, expenses and invoices to ensure proper claim processing and resolution
• Communicate with external carriers to resolve issues
• Respond to emergency and changing situations to guarantee deliveries to customers
• Analyze report data to measure transportation performance
• Communicate with divisions and stores to address and resolve transportation issues
• Assist with scheduling, receipt and delivery of the seasonal promotions business
• Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation

Minimum Position Qualifications:

• 4 + years experience in transportation and logistics
• Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must be organized and detail oriented
• Self motivated
• Ability to meet goals and deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs

Desired Previous Job Experience

• Supervisory/managerial experience within a distribution/logistics environment
• Expertise in shipping, receiving and inventory management and transportation
• Experience within a food distribution environment
• Knowledge/understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements
