Job Summary



  • Domain area-focused architect responsible for defining solutions that align to enterprise strategies and standards. Act as a critical interface between business Stakeholders and Technology Teams to translate business intent into viable technology solutions that enable desired business outcomes. Responsible for effectively communicating in both verbal and written form to business and technology Stakeholders at various levels and tailoring the content to the target audience with minimal supervision.

  • This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, Delaware, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities



  • Partner with business & technology Stakeholders to establish the technical strategy/roadmap for a business domain product(s) or product line(s) that will enable long-term business outcomes

  • Translates Stakeholder intent into cohesive solution architectures aligned with Enterprise strategies, Reference Architectures, domain technical roadmaps, and non-functional requirements

  • Reviews high-level functional requirements and provides t-shirt size implementation estimates

  • Defines non-functional requirements in collaboration with Stakeholders and IT Team

  • Supports the planning of solution deployment activities and sequencing

  • Reviews and approves IT Team designs and ensures alignment to the solution architecture

  • Collaborates closely with IT Team and provides ongoing mentoring and coaching to Engineers

  • Promotes and enforces Enterprise standards and industry best practices

  • Champions inclusion of architecture runway items as part of planning process

  • Creates and presents Architecture Review Board (ARB) content and other relevant material to Peers and Leadership

  • Defines non-functional requirements in collaboration with Stakeholders and IT Team

  • Partner with Technology Teams to establish an architecture that meets SWA technology standards

  • Creates and maintains Reference Architectures aligned with technology roadmap

  • Defines and reviews technical criteria for vendor evaluations, participates in package selections, and ensures contracts include expected technical outcomes

  • Researches airline and technology industry trends and promotes ways they can be applied

  • Operate as a trusted advisor for the business, work to define the business intent and non-functional requirements, and provide a comprehensive architecture that will meet business needs

  • Contribute to the growth of the SWA Technology Teams through hiring, coaching, and mentoring

  • Promote architecture technology standards and contribute to SWA technology standards

  • Research current and emerging technologies and identify technologies that can accelerate business value delivery

  • Seek opportunities to improve SWA technical competency actively

  • Design, build, refactor or operate distributed large scale and impactful IT projects - either on premises or in the cloud

  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Knowledge of a modern programming language (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Go, .Net, Java, etc.)

  • Knowledge of working in a technology domain such as distributed large-scale web, mobile applications, APIs, Cloud, Event Streams, DevOps, Serverless, Big Data, and Analytics

  • Skilled in excellent verbal and written communication with Stakeholders to achieve the desired architectural outcomes

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

  • Ability to understand and apply information to contribute to the organization's strategic plan

  • Ability to bring others together and trying to reconcile differences

  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making

  • Skilled in Architecture Design Tools (e.g. Draw.io, Visio)

  • Skilled in Software programming paradigms (e.g. Object orientated, Functional)

  • Skilled in Software versioning software and best practices (e.g. Git)


Education



  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience - in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or equivalent experience or formal training


Experience



  • Required: Expert-level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in architecture design and implementation of large scale distributed systems

  • Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills with ability to address large and small audiences; Required

  • Ability to articulate (verbally / visually) ideas, approaches, concepts, options, risks, impacts, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical, non-technical, and Leadership audiences

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Must possess outstanding business acumen and a sound understanding of industry rules / standards, especially as pertaining to their respective domain

  • Must be highly organized, motivated, and capable of working with minimum supervision

  • Ability to mentor / coach Tech Leads, Senior Engineers, and Peers in a domain or technical area

  • Experience providing technical leadership to a distributed set of Teams comprised of onsite and offsite Teams, including both Employees and third parties

  • Expert knowledge of computer hardware and/or software, emerging practices / concepts, and technology relevant to organizational / domain vision

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, Team-based, Customer service-oriented environment

  • Basic understanding of project management methodology and principles; experience with SAFe preferred

  • 1+ years of experience with AWS Services including Dynamo, Serverless, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway, VPC, Kinesis, Preferred

  • 3+ years of engineering and/or business work experience; preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in Software Development, Preferred

  • 5+ years of work experience in multiple technology disciplines, Preferred

  • 3+ years of experience in Software Architecture; preferred

  • 3+ years of experience with Domain Driven Design; preferred

  • 3+ years of experience with Event Driven Architecture; preferred

  • 3+ years of experience writing Java and/or Python; preferred

  • AWS certification; preferred

  • 3+ years of experience working with Enterprise Integration Patterns; preferred

  • Experience integrating with SaaS solutions; preferred

Comp & Benefits




  • Competitive market salary from $158,950 per year to $176,600 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For elidable leadership individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company
