  • Experience in Contracting, Procurement and/or Solicitations.
  • Proficiency in preparing well-written, grammatically correct, accurate documents and correspondence with strong proofreading skill.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Professional and ethical behavior.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and retain information.
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to create and analyze reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration related field.
  • Knowledge of Jaggaer Contracts Plus (formerly SciQuest).
  • Experience using SAP.
  • Working knowledge of Higher Education, State and Federal rules and regulations in regard to Procurement and Contracting.
  • Certified Texas Contract Developer (CTCD). This position will be required to have a Certified Texas Contract Developer (CTCD) certification as required by UPPS 05.02.05. Certification must be obtained within six months of hire.

Job Description

The Contract Specialist is responsible for providing high-level technical assistance to the entire University by directing the process of sourcing, negotiations, awarding and management of contracts for the purchase of goods and/or services. Interpret, utilize and apply State and University procurement and contract laws, policies, guidelines.

Job Duties

  • Maintain the contracts database, the University system of record.
  • Oversee contracts inbox and review all correspondence and respond as necessary.
  • Coordinate work with various University departments to ensure fulfillment of contract requirements.
  • Provide professional, accurate, and concise communication both verbal and written.
  • Keep current on State and University procurement/fiscal rules and regulations.
  • Review solicitations and contracts for contract clauses and legal sufficiency.
  • Prepare, review and negotiate contract terms, conditions, and pricing.
  • Request and draft contract amendments and renewals.
  • Assist with resolution of contract disputes.
  • Monitor contracts to ensure proper performance by contractors.
  • Advise University departments of contractual rights and obligations.
  • Ensure contracts are properly closed upon expiration or termination.
  • Routinely run contract reports on weekly, biweekly, and quarterly basis.
  • Perform research and related work as required and assigned.
  • Work overtime including evenings and weekends, as necessary.

Additional Information to Applicants

This position will be required to obtain a Certified Texas Contract Developer (CTCD) certification as required by UPPS 05.02.05 within six months of hire. Does require working onsite in office setting with fluorescent lighting.
