Job Summary




  • Supports the Architecture department within Southwest Technology. This position works in a data driven, process oriented, measured way which serves to de-risk the enterprise and hasten efficiencies, mentors and trains architects to solve for holistic business value, evangelizes and creates alignment across vertical and horizontal delivery organizations, applies structured guidance utilizing standards, patterns, reference implementations and models.




  • Provide a critical advisory role in the alignment of technology work to business outcomes using the tools and methods of Business Architecture, including Capabilities, Value Streams, and Processes. Work with business and IT Leaders across the Company to capture and maintain relevant facts about the enterprise and synthesize that information into novel insights for decision-makers. Recommend and implement new practices to continuously improve the Business Architecture capability at Southwest Airlines.

  • This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for trainings, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work off-site. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, Delaware, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.




  • Responsibilities




  • Perform the analysis and collaboration necessary to produce high-quality and effective BA artifacts and insights




  • Develop processes, guidelines and standards that result in the alignment of corporate strategic goals with program & project execution




  • Explain, educate, and evangelize the practice and value of Business Architecture to various stakeholders in the organization




  • Define meaningful Key Performance Indicators and metrics for capabilities, processes, and other Business Architecture aspects




  • Develop business architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various business scenarios and motivations




  • Capture the relationships among roles, capabilities, business units and subunits both within and external to the organization




  • Design and implement Business Architecture governance, policies, and procedures for the organization




  • Integrate Business Architecture with other business and IT management organizations and processes




  • Provide coaching, mentoring & transparent feedback as required




  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders




  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




  • Expert knowledge of Business Architecture theory, practice, concepts, and technology relevant to the organizational vision




  • Ability to assess impact of applied technology on SWA business with sufficient technical knowledge




  • Intermediate knowledge of airline IT organizations and standard practices




  • Knowledge of Agile project management methodology




  • Skilled in partnering, negotiating, communication, and consulting across multiple projects and technology areas




  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based, Customer-service-oriented environment




  • Ability to think strategically and communicate strategic vision




  • Ability to visualize data and present concepts and findings in formal settings




  • Skilled in Enterprise Architecture Management tools: LeanIX, EAS, and Planview/Troux




  • Skilled in Business Process Management tools: ARIS and Signavio




  • Skilled in Data Prep & Visualization tools: Tableau, PowerBI, and Alteryx




  • Education




  • Required: High School Diploma or GED




  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related field and/or equivalent formal training




  • Experience




  • Required: Expert-level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in:




  • Business Architecture, including modeling, facilitation, and development




  • Enterprise Architecture, Corporate Strategy, or Technology Strategy & Planning environments




  • Business Analysis




  • Experience creating, monitoring, and interpreting stakeholder change readiness and adoption metrics through the entire engagement lifecycle, preferred




  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, Team-based, Customer-service-oriented environment




  • Demonstrated analytical/problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration skills




  • Ability to concisely model concepts, preferred




  • Prior background in any of the following Process Improvement, Services Consolidation and Optimization, Process automation, and Expense reduction, preferred




  • Ability to articulate (verbally/visually) ideas, approach, concepts, options, risk, impact, and recommendations to technical, non-technical and Leadership audiences (facilitate meetings to medium/large audience of peers), preferred




  • Possesses cross-functional knowledge across multiple Business of IT operational and delivery disciplines , preferred




  • Experience identifying measures of successful adoption, utilization, proficiency, and risk mitigation in consultation with sponsor, technology leader(s), and program leader(s), preferred

Pay & Benefits



  • Competitive market salary from $144,200 per year to $160,200 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
