Description:
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Reviews and analyzes invoice data entered by end-users and assists those end-users to ensure conformity with generally accepted accounting practices as well as to Roanoke County policies and procedures. This position also generates all payments for the County for invoices processed in a timely manner. Accurate and comprehensive scanning of all department documents to create electronic copies as official County records is also a requirement of this position. Good attention to detail, organizational skills and good decision making skills are essential for this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Review and analyze invoice information that’s been entered from end-users and assist system end-users to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting practices and Roanoke County policies and proceduresCreate vouchers in system for invoice wire payments for Roanoke County, Roanoke County Schools, Western Virginia Regional Jail AuthorityTimely scanning of all backup and support received from end-users for (1) invoices entered and processed for Roanoke County, Roanoke County Schools, Western Virginia Regional Jail Authority, Roanoke Valley Resource Authority, Greenway Commission and for (2) journal and budget entries for Roanoke County, Roanoke County Schools, Western Virginia Regional Jail AuthorityPrepare CSA and Social Service checks generated outside of Roanoke County financial system for mailingGenerate timely payment for all invoices entered and processed in the systemProcess and distribute all incoming mail received (from internal departments as well as from U.S. Postal Service)
REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES
EducationRequired: High School diploma or equivalent supplemented by college level courses or training in bookkeeping and accounting practices.Experience Required: At least 1 year of accounts payable experienceAt least 1 year of accounting/bookkeeping experienceCertifications/ LicensesNoneKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of procedures and methods used in accounting (specifically accounts payable) and bookkeeping.Ability to interpret policies and procedures in researching and resolving customer inquiries, requests, etc.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with othersAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal department personnel to which assigned in order to learn and understand their internal bookkeeping methods and practicesAbility to maintain complex files and records and prepare reports from those recordsAbility to learn and master a variety of office software systems, including County financial system, Microsoft Office products, document image storage systemAbility to review and analyze information received from internal departments to discern conformance to accounting practices and procedures, as well as to Roanoke County policiesBeginning to intermediate Excel skillsAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writingAbility to organize and prioritize tasksAdditional Requirements Subject to a complete criminal history background search with acceptable results.
